Equipment & materials list
This brand new landscape painting course is aimed at absolute beginners and those who took Melanie's recent introductory class.
Starting with a basic introduction to oil colours, we’ll learn different brushstrokes and ways of applying paint - both thinned washes and thick, straight from the tube - before being shown how to layer colours, wet in wet. Melanie will illustrate each technique with quick exercises you can follow or try later.
Each week we look at a different aspect of landscape painting, including trees, skies, water and reflections as well as how to create depth and distance. Most weeks will include a simple study or landscape view for you to paint step by step along with Melanie. If you prefer, simply watch the lesson and have a go yourself afterwards from the recording.
Students can work in traditional oils or water-mixable oils.
Specific skills you will learn
- Paint-handling & brush marks
- Colour mixing
- Using a palette knife
- Glazing and scumbling
- Impasto vs. thinned washes
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Melanie will offer feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
