This talk looks at the life and work of Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, known to most as Raphael, one of the most important painters and architects of the High Renaissance.
Martin’s talk takes you to his birthplace in Urbino and to many of the greatest of his masterpieces, both in galleries and churches. His drawings are admired for their beauty of form, their grace and perfection of composition. The Neoplatonic ideal informed his work and we will look at the ideas and philosophies that are expressed in his prodigious output.
Martin will provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk via the blackboard.
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends. After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
