Class details
Acrylics are a wonderful versatile medium that can be used in a huge variety of ways. In this workshop we will be using acrylics in their default technique - blocking-in & building-up.
This technique is all about using acrylics in layers….the easiest way to use them without additives or mediums, taking advantage of their fast drying time. Working with a landscape image we will tackle visual blending & mark-making using different brushes, sponges, even fingers!
First we will cover the basics of composition, choosing a colour palette, and preparation for a painting. Then, working on a coloured ground, we will build our image layer by layer working through a series of stages from the underlying structure to final finishing touches – including my favourite things - a bit of spattering and a flourish of oil pastel or Posca pen!
A fun and informal workshop guiding you through the principles of basic acrylic techniques that can be applied to any subject matter.
Specific skills you will learn
- Selecting a colour palette
- Preparation for a painting
- Techniques & materials for effective mark-making
- Using the paint in a variety of ways
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Karen will offer feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
