Workshop Details
Making teddy bears is such a wonderful skill to learn. Each one has its own personality and it's very easy to get quite attached to them as you bring them to life! In this two-day workshop, we will hand stitch a small, fully jointed bear (about ten inches) from genuine Steiff Shulte mohair, which is the number one choice fabric for bear makers around the world. You can use a synthetic alternative if you wish. Real glass eyes and hand embroidered features make this gorgeous bear completely unique. If you want to use the synthetic alternative to mohair please let us know in the Notes field when making your booking.
Time permitting, we will also craft a pair of dungarees for your bear, from a range of cotton fabrics available on the day, or you can source your own. Using recycled fabrics for the dungarees (such as an old shirt, dress or pyjamas) can give the bear special meaning. You may not finish your bear in the two days but you will have the necessary skills and materials to finish up at home.
You are going to love your bear, and may just find this hobby a little bit addictive. I now have about 30, made during lockdown. It needs to be a special person to give these away as gifts….
