Talk details
Martin’s talk examines the fascinating links between scientific advances and art in Victorian England. There are many memorable paintings in Victoria’s long reign that underscore this theme.
The talk is thoroughly illustrated with original visual material that throws light on this crucial period in the nation’s life. Images of the scientists and geologists, as well as the great discoveries and advances of the Victorian period. Images of medicine, industry, civil engineering and commerce all contribute to a better appreciation of late nineteenth century's most advanced nation.
Martin will provide a list of helpful books and links to further explore on a PDF following the talk via the class information page.
