Course details
During this two-part workshop we will be exploring the techniques and tips of successfully drawing and painting winter botanicals. Enjoy the pleasure of drawing and painting beautiful winter flowers and seedheads with all the strength and subtleties of winter colours. Your paintings can be executed as a precise botanical painting or in a modern way: large and loosely painted.
First, we will focus on drawing and the importance of careful observation. We will give consideration to mixing fresh translucent color and gain the ability to create good washes and blend colour expertly by using our brushes and paints to best advantage.
We will look at the different options and discuss the appropriate techniques and tools for each. The sessions will be spent learning the different methods available and using paint and water correctly rather than a finished painting.
During week 1 we will look at winter flowers, then we'll move on to look at winter seedheads in week 2. Exact botanicals will be confirmed closer to the time.
Specific skills you will learn
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class.
Jan will offer personal feedback for any work submitted via the class page within thirty days of the class ending. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
