Course details
Next up in our Sketching with Pat series, we take a look at 'Softness and Subtleties'. Pat is known for drawing with feeling and sensitivity. She draws with swift, light touches when something speaks of gentleness, and with intense pressure when power or brightness is needed. All of these expressive qualities will come into play during this therapeutic, inspiring two-part course.
Landscapes, with their freedom and beauty, will make the perfect subjects and Pat will share many of her sketches with us for inspiration. Learn the delights of Pat’s signature light, free, diagonal strokes, that whoosh across her pages in long grasses and racing skies.
WEEK 1:
WEEK 2:
Unusually, we will work entirely on Indian Rag Papers for this course - drawing on dark tones and lusciously coloured ones, like cerise and red. These soft, almost spongy yielding-surface papers will give your sketches a different feel. They are more subtle, almost drawing the viewer in. And they call for fluid, juicy running pens, especially the white to balance all the softness with precision.
Specific skills you will learn
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class information page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
