This one-day, onsite workshop is designed for a range of abilities including absolute beginners and those with a little experience. Some manual dexterity is required.
Included in the booking fee is a virtual catch-up where the tutor will host a (non-recorded) 1-hour Zoom call to talk through any problems and questions you have. This also gives you a chance to show your piece to your fellow students. This session will be on Friday 14th of March at 10am
Workshop Details
We will be working on creating a Roman-style tabletop using the 'Direct' method. This method involves gluing the tesserae directly on to the base. A tessera is an individual tile (plural tesserae) and the ones we shall use are marble.
The tabletop base is made of MDF, has a 50cm diameter and is 9mm thick. It will have a basic circular design already in place and you can either follow this design or adapt it. The completed table will only be suitable for interior use. We will discuss options for the legs during the day but as everyone's requirements for the table will be different, the legs will need to be purchased separately.
We will start the day by grouting a small pre-prepared coaster, so when you come to grout your table top at home, you will have the necessary know-how. We won't be able to finish the tabletop in one day but you will be armed with the necessary skills, tesserae, glue and grout to finish it at home.
Skills & Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor. The cost of these will be £42 - the tutor can take cash or card payment on the day. You will have use of the tutors equipment but feel free to bring your own if you have any.
