Workshop Details
Originating from Japan, Kurinuki is a traditional hand-building technique involving the hollowing out a block of clay and carving the exterior surface. The Kurinuki process is fun, straightforward and very calming.
Join Debbie to explore a different way to work with clay. Kurinuki involves carving both the inside and the exterior to form a vessel or box. We will form the blocks of clay, and then carve using knives, carving tools and wires. Over the course of the workshop we will make a cup, a vase and a box. Debbie will bring 2 different clays for you to try. You will also be able to apply slips to complete the decoration of your work. Debbie will dry, fire and glaze your work You can either collect from Debbie’s own studio or have them posted to you for an additional charge.
Specific skills and techniques that will be taught
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. Materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of materials will be £50 (which includes the clay, slip, glazing and firing) payable to the tutor during the workshop. Cash or cards welcome.
