Class details
Join us for an exploration of monochrome media, using the winter landscape as our theme. We will experiment with different types of charcoal, Conte crayons, & pastel in a muted, almost monochrome, palette using a variety of approaches.
We will explore creative mark-making and the use of different surfaces to create interesting and atmospheric effects. We will look at using the media in traditional dry techniques, then extend their range by using them wet and ‘painting’ with them. A multitude of effects can be created from fine delicate linework to rich velvety tones and dramatic contrasts
A fun workshop with lots of step-by-step instruction – no experience needed…..just a willingness to get messy! This class is followed beautifully by Karen's 'Not Quite Black & White: Ink, Bleach, Resist' class in February.
Specific skills you will learn
- Using charcoal etc. with wet and dry techniques
- Markmaking & layering
- Creating winter landscape compositions
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class information page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
