Class details
A gel plate is a perfect surface for making a series of one off prints. Whether you would like a refresher of some gel plate printing techniques, have a gel plate and never used it, or have no idea what a gel plate printing is but would like to find out, then you are very welcome on this workshop.
During this workshop Janina will cover care of your gel plate and the most suitable paints and papers to use for printing. Be prepared to experiment and you will quickly gather a stack of gorgeous prints.
Janina will demonstrate several techniques for making prints including mixing colours, layering, mark making, using textured surfaces, stencils, and magazine image transfers.
You are encouraged to have a go with your gel plate during Janina's demonstrations, so that we can do any troubleshooting as needed. If you prefer you to watch the demonstrations first, then have a go at the techniques afterwards, there will be opportunities for feedback via the class blackboard for thirty days.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
- Care of your gel plate and brayer / roller
- Suitable papers and paints for gel plate printing
- How to make prints including “ghost prints” and “pickup prints”
- Using objects such mark making tools, textured surfaces, and stencils to make prints
- How to transfer an image from a magazine
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class information page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
