This one-day workshop is suitable for beginners with a little experience and those with more know-how.
Workshop Details
On this workshop we will be painting a short–eared owl using watercolours on a tinted paper then adding ink and pastel pencils for colourful layered effect, to depict the beautiful plumage. This technique is a good way free up your watercolours by adding other media to handle some of the detail as well as explore interesting marks and textures.
Skills / Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. The tutor will provide the Grey mixed media paper – Strathmore 400 series A3 (ish) size paper. The approximate cost of this will be £2, payable to the tutor during the workshop
Students - please bring with you:
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.

- 2b pencil
- eraser
- waterproof fineliner pens in black (just 1 or 2 fairly fine ones like 0.3 and 0.5)
- watercolours - cobalt blue, violet, cadmium orange, Payne's grey, Naples yellow, cadmium red
- watercolour brushes, round size 10 and 6
- water pot/ jam jar
- kitchen towels
- pastel pencils (good quality coloured pencils might be okay too)
- white gouache or white watercolour
