Session details
Wellbeing work-alongs are a fairly new addition to the Ardington ONLINE programme; the perfect opportunity to take the pressure off, slow down, and indulge in a bit of ‘you’ time. These stripped back sessions are a step away from our traditional jam-packed classes; there'll be no handouts and, more importantly, no homework!
In this session, we will take our inspiration from the first flowers of spring. Using basic shapes as our starting point we will doodle, draw and paint in an illustrative style (this isn’t a botanical drawing class!) to create an imaginary flower garden. Working with any water-based colour media of your choice we will create layers of harmonious colour over our doodles, adding depth and detail as we go. For a final flourish there is the option to turn your creations into a pop-up insert for a card or to stand on a windowsill or mantlepiece – the perfect no-maintenance flower display!
You can work along with Karen at a gentle pace – working from the template and reference materials we will provide or your own beach photos or piles of pebbles! Grab yourselves a cuppa, turn off your phone, and enjoy a peaceful afternoon playing with paint!
Specific skills you will learn
- Creating a composition from basic shapes
- Simple layering techniques for depth and detail
- An illustrative approach – simplifying and stylizing
- Making a simple pop-up mechanism
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
