Tutor Debbie Page
10am- 4pm
This one-day, onsite workshop is designed for complete beginners and those with some experiance
Workshop Details
Nerikomi (often referred to as Neriage) is a decorative process established in Japan, that involves stacking coloured clay and then slicing through the cross-section to reveal a pattern that can then be used as an applied decoration. Nerikomi designs provide a wonderful way to work three dimensionally with patterns and images.
We will spend a little time looking at examples of the use coloured clays from different pottery traditions, eg nerikomi, millifiori and agateware. Using clay coloured with either oxides or stains, there will be 5-6 different coloured clays to work with. We will explore methods of building designs and patterns first on paper and then with the clay. We will use moulds to shape the clay into bowls, plates etc. Pieces can also be made into jewellery.
Skills/Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not included in your booking fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £25-30 payable to the tutor during the class. Depending upon quantity of clay used
The tutor has the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops but can also take cash or cheque
Please Bring With You
Apron, notebook and pencil for any notes. Coloured pencils would also be useful – tutor will provide squared paper.
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
