This one-day, onsite workshop is designed for a range of abilities including beginners with a little lettering experience
Workshop Details
The Uncial script was in full swing in the 8th Century, so it’s well overdue for a makeover. As there are no separate capitals and lower-case, there’s only half the work to do! By first examining some 8th century script examples to gain some basic principles, we will then develop some variations that can look livelier and more useful for today. Heavyweight or light, using different pen sizes for variations of effect, and having some fun with colour in the pens will mean a busy but fruitful day. Whilst beginners may want to stick to the simplest version of the script, and have fun with the colour play, more experienced students can explore the weight and contrast options afforded by pushing the boundaries further.
Pens, paper and inks will be provided for use during the day; all you’ll need to bring are everyday items plus a contribution to the equipment loans detailed below
Skills/Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £2, payable to the tutor during the course.
Your tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.
Please Bring With You
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
