This one-day, onsite workshop is designed for a range of abilities including beginners

Workshop Details
This is an introduction to the skills and techniques involved in glass fusing and slumping. We will complete three Projects during the day – glass jewellery, a flat fused piece and a fused and slumped platter or bowl which will undergo two firing processes. You will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the different glass materials and experiment with a variety of techniques.

The Three Projects
Project 1:
We will explore different techniques to create fused glass jewellery. These cabochons can also be used for fridge magnets, keyring or handbag decorations or even a light catcher. How to assemble your glass and the end results will be discussed. The '6mm rule' will be explained and applied.  You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of glass materials including frits, confetti, etc. and even melting stringers over a flame.

Project 2:
During this project you will be able to practise and improve your glass cutting skills. We will be using a strip cutter as well as cutting freehand shapes. The correct use of glass cutting tools and pliers will be demonstrated. You can create either a small wall hanging, coasters, a mirror frame or a wind chime.

Project 3:
You will learn techniques to design your own sheet of art glass. This will then be used to form a slumped bowl or platter. This project will include two firing processes; Fusing and Slumping.  Suitable moulds will be discussed and prepared for the slumping process. Firing schedules for glass will be explained.

Skills/Techniques Covered

Materials
Materials are not included in your course fee.

All materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £35-£45 depending on how much glass you use - this also includes all firing costs. This is payable to the tutor during the workshop.

Your Projects will be taken away for firing in a kiln and will be returned to the school for you to collect after the course. A postal service is available at £6.00 but due to the nature of the pieces collection will be advisable.

Jewellery findings and chains are available to purchase from the tutor.

Your tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.
