Workshop details
Weaving on a frame is a good way to start weaving - all you need is a picture frame, some cotton yarn and a selection of coloured wool. In this series, Angela will show you the basic techniques and give you ideas of how to use them to weave your own pictures
In the first session you will be shown how to put the cotton warp on the frame; how to weave without pulling in the warp; ways to combine colours and the important “meet and separate” technique.
The second session will start with Q&A giving a chance for students to show what they have achieved and ensure they have the right understanding. You will then be shown further tapestry and weaving techniques, how to take the picture off the loom and ideas for planning your own picture.
The final session will provide an opportunity to look at the work achieved so far and see what the group has achieved, as well as a good opportunity for more Q&A with the tutor.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop:
Equipment & materials list
All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below. This list is for guidance only - you can improvise and source your own materials, either in advance or once you have seen the LivePlus™ workshop, giving you maximum flexibility to choose how you would like to approach this craft.
You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching the live demonstration – the demo session is a time to watch, ask and learn. After the demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
For this workshop, Angela will be sending each student enough yarn to produce their first sample. Details will be provided after booking.

Details of suppliers will be discussed during the workshop and included in the post-workshop handout.

You will also need:
- A wooden frame - (picture frames work really well) it must be firm and ideally it should be at least 40cm (15in) by 40cm. Depth should preferably be between 0.5 and 1cm (0.2-0.5in)
- White cotton yarn - you will be sent enough to set up the frame for your first sample. Crochet yarn would be fine.
- Woolen yarns - you will be sent a selection including rug wool (normally contains 20% nylon) which is the best type to start with. Thinner yarns can be combined to give interesting effects.
- Scissors
- Ruler
