This three-part LivePlus™ online course is designed for any level from absolute beginner to those with a good knowledge of gardening.
Workshop Details
The difference between a garden and a designer garden can be achieved with ease, once you have learnt the rudimentary principles and practiced with an expert. Designing with plants is the next step, and can be one of the most pleasurable and exciting parts of gardening. This three part workshop is for those who want to achieve a good outline design framework, with a beautiful balance of colour, height, form and texture with plants that will thrive.
In the first session of this workshop series, we will use the Ardington Garden Design Cards to select and prioritise your garden features and style wish list, as well as learning all the fundamentals of good design. We will work together to develop an outline garden design, from scratch, in the workshop, which the tutor will then complete offline and share with you all. You will learn about layout considerations, design boards, colour and be able to sketch up your own design with confidence.
In the second session we will explore how to choose the right plants for the right places and what it takes to make them thrive. You will come away from the course with the confidence to know how to tackle a garden centre or specialist nursery visit without fear of getting it wrong and killing everything in sight! You will begin the process of developing your own design and a colour themed planting plan in readiness for feedback at the follow up session.
The third and final session is dedicated to looking at your garden designs OR planting plans (you can pick one or other for homework!), sharing ideas, asking more questions and thinking about next steps.
Comprehensive workshop materials will be provided after the workshop sessions, in addition to your own copy of the Ardington Garden Cards, to use at home to work on your own garden design.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshops:
Designing a garden:
Planting a garden:
