This LivePlus™ online pastels workshop is designed for beginners and improvers
Workshop details
On this course you will discover the timeless appeal of still life painting. Using the wonderfully flexible medium of soft pastel, you will be shown how to depict the contrasting hard surface of ceramic with the variety of textures of the produce. After discussing composition and carrying out the loose preliminary drawing, you will be shown some simple and fascinating techniques of pastel application. These include using different areas of your hands and fingers to apply the pastel and render the various textures and how, by adding a few light marks with pastel directly, can completely change the appearance of the object’s surface.

Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below. This list is for guidance only - you can improvise and source your own materials, either in advance or once you have seen the LivePlus™ workshop, giving you maximum flexibility to choose how you would like to approach this craft.
You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching the live demonstration – the demo session is a time to watch, ask and learn. After the demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.

- Tinted pastel paper - Clive will be using raw sienna Clairefontaine pastelmat
- A decent selection of good quality soft pastels - Clive uses Unison with the paper band around
- White pastel pencil
- Dark brown pastel pencil
- Small brush (1cm approx.) for brushing away surplus
- Soft putty rubber
- Masking tape
- Kitchen towel
- Wet wipes
