This two-part LivePlus™ online course is suitable for improvers, intermediates and advanced students. It can also follow on from Modern Pointed Pen Cursive: a taster.
Workshop details
This workshop will include a recap of basic modern pointed pen cursive miniscule letterforms, moving through to words, dancing letters, experimenting with variations and their use in short texts. Gaynor will also demonstrate capitals and writing with colour using designer's gouache.
After a demonstration of a basic version of the script, Gaynor will cover variations in letter weight, letter spacing, letter size and demonstrate them in short texts and will then show you capitals, both as an alphabet and their use in combination with the miniscule. You will also look at some flourish possibilities and the use of colour using designer's gouache and colour change in the pen.

Materials are not included in the course fee.
Students are encouraged to have the materials to hand to work alongside Gaynor as she demonstrates in both of these classes. There is no pressure to share your work with the class, but there will be plenty of opportunities to receive feedback as you go along if you wish.
After the demo you will get a link to watch the recording, which is available for 30 days; allowing you to work along at your own pace and at a time that suits you best.

- Zebra G or Nikko G pointed nib
- Pen holder
- Non waterproof black calligraphy ink such as Pelikan 4001 black or Rousy black
- Ruler
- HB pencil
- A3 pad Winsor & Newton smooth surface cartridge pad (70lb / 105gsm or 60lb / 90gsm)
- Slip on reservoir (optional but recommended for holding more ink)
- Winsor & Newton Designer's Gouache - choose one or two colours from turquoise, ultramarine, lemon yellow, alizarin crimson, or spectrum red (series 1 or 2)
- Small mixing palette with compartments
- Cheap mixing brush
- Pot of water
