Speaker: Christine Green
Fri 5th March 2021 2pm - 3pm (UK time)
Christine is a self taught patchworker and made her first ‘quilt’ when she was about 9. She has made quilts to commission, but usually just for fun when her fingers get an itch to stitch.
This 60 minute talk will look at her inspiration; the Quilts of Gees Bend, freestyle quilts, and Japanese Boro work. She will also touch on the origins of patchwork, recycling as much as possible, and not worrying about perfectly mitred corners. This talk is less about fat quarters and jelly rolls, more about the joys of car boot finds and playing with fabric.
Christine machine stitches, hand stitches and sometimes uses templates but it’s all about the design and colour and textures rather than rigorous technique. She will talk through the process of several of her beautiful quilts, why and how she made them.
