This LivePlus™ online workshop is designed for anyone who wants to have a go at this fun and interesting craft.

Workshop details
Borrowing from Boro: inspired by Japanese Boro work, Christine has been developing a style of hand and machine stitched patchwork that is very accessible and rewarding. Derived from the Japanese 'boroboro' - meaning something tattered or repaired - Boro is the practice of repairing and reworking textiles, such as clothing or bedding, through piecing, patching and stitching, in order to extend their use.

This 2 hour class will include an illustrated introduction to Boro work followed by a demonstration as to how you can create a Boro-influenced piece of textile that can be made in to a phone or glasses case. You will gain the skills you need to go on to bigger projects and Christine will share examples to inspire you.

Specific skills you will learn at the workshop:
  • The use of scraps to create something practical
  • Use of hand stitching to add interest and texture
  • Use of machine stitching to add interest and texture
  • Combining different fabrics
  • Developing a design for patchwork
  • Adding embellishments - beads, buttons, embroidery

Equipment & materials list
Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below, but this list is for guidance only - you can improvise and source your own materials, either in advance or once you have seen the LivePlus workshop, giving you maximum flexibility to choose how you would like to approach this craft.

You needn't have the materials ready whilst watching the live demonstration – the demo session is a time to watch, ask and learn. After the demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
