Tutor Richard Box
10am - 4pm

This two-day, onsite workshop is suitable for beginners with a little sewing machine experience

Workshop Details
Do you want to create one of your own designs and translate it into a picture using Richard’s well known technique which combines fabric collage with both machine and hand embroidery? Then this is the workshop for you! Under Richard’s careful guidance you will be supplied with a learning pack and he will teach you how to progress through it step by step.

Skills / Techniques Covered
Fabric Collage with both machine and  hand stitching.

Materials
Materials are not included in the workshop fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor (listed below). The approximate cost of these will be £5.00, payable to the tutor during the workshop.

A Learning Pack consisting of:
  • Hessian as the backing fabric
  • Fabulous fabric scraps for the collage
  • PVA
  • A small brush for the PVA

Students Please Bring
  • An electric sewing machine with which you are very familiar and possesses a darning foot, sometimes known as a free motion foot
    • Please note that this foot is crucial. Ensure that you have practised with it beforehand so that you will be comfortable doing the free machine embroidery during the course itself
  • Size 90 or 100 sewing machine needles
  • A selection of machine embroidery and hand sewing threads in the following colours
  • Reds and pinks ( for the poppies ), blues  (for the cornflowers), greens (for the stems and leaves) and blacks (for the background)
  • A pair of sharp scissors
  • A large-eyed, sharp pointed needle such as a ‘ yarn darner ‘.

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
