Workshop details
Come and learn a mixed media technique that is great for upcycling all those pieces of paper ephemera you have been keeping (receipts, labels, maps etc) to make paper-cloth sheets. Then use your sheets to make a handmade soft cover notebook, sewn collage pictures and many other items.
Janina will start the demonstration by showing four simple techniques for decorating your own papers. Then she will show how to make sheets of paper-cloth by laminating decorative, recycled and tissue papers onto muslin. Once dry they can be decorated with paints and inks and she will cover techniques of stencilling, and also making your own foam block stamps.
The sheets cross the boundary between paper and fabric and are quite sturdy, so they can be easily cut, glued and sewn. Janina will show examples of what can be made with sheets included some stitched collages which have been embellished with beads and sequins. She will also demonstrate step by step how to make a pamphlet stitch book with one of the sheets. This is an ideal workshop if you want to try something a bit different and are happy to experiment with the materials.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop:
