This LivePlus™ online workshop is ideal for everyone. You don't need any formal calligraphic or drawing experience!
Workshop details
“See the world, one sketch at a time!” is Sharon's motto. Indeed, she has spent the better part of the last ten years offering “ On the Go Sketching & Calligraphy” classes all over the world. In this online workshop the emphasis will be on integrating sketched, painted or collaged images with handwriting and lettering to create lively, beautiful and uniquely personal pages in a simple accordion book.
Class exercises will include drawing and sketching basics such as gesture and contour drawing, as well as simple acrylic, sumi ink, watercolor and collage techniques. A lettering component will include handwriting, as well as modifying/personalising a cursive italic. No prior drawing or formal calligraphy experience? No problem! This class is meant for all levels.
The main emphasis will be expanding on what we already know through experimenting with a layered and informal approach to sketching/drawing, calligraphy and composition. Ahead of the class students will be encouraged to choose a theme (such as flowers, garden) and to bring a simple text to work with, for example one line of a Haiku, or a favourite poem.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
Equipment & materials list
Materials are not included in the course fee.
All the materials and equipment that Sharon suggests are listed below but this list is for guidance only - if you have a few of these things, but not all, it's not a problem. Sharon will be demonstrating how she uses them and you can decide what approach to take. Sharon will also be showing examples using simply watercolour, pencil and pen & ink, so you can see them too.
You may wish to have some basic materials with you whilst watching the live demonstration, so that you can sketch along or take notes, but predominantly, the demo sessions are a time to watch, ask and learn. After each demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
