Speaker: Martin Beek

Wed 7th July 2pm - 3:15pm (UK time)

This will be a 60 minute talk followed by an open Q&A session.

James McNeill Whistler was one of the most controversial painters and printmakers of the late nineteenth century. He produced a highly original form of painting, as well as many memorable statements on art, that significantly shape a modern understanding of art and the role of an artist.

Martin examines “Art for Arts Sake” in the context of his work. He looks at his rivalry with other artists, disputes with critics and collectors. His life makes a fascinating story. The talk is fully illustrated with many original photographs of Whistler’s work.
