This four-part LivePlus™ online series is ideal for beginners and improvers. It follows on beautifully from Jo's introductory course, but is open to anyone who wants to push their creative boundaries, explore and experiment.
Workshop details
In this course, Jo will working with the theme of Summer landscapes. She will provide you with all the skills you need to experiment with mixed media techniques and discover how to combine different media to express your ideas. You will develop observations of colour, pattern and texture to bring richness to your work.
Each week you will focus on different elements, including line, colour, pattern, mark-making and surface texture. Throughout the series you will also explore specific painting and mixed media techniques, including drawing, collage, layering, and painting. Jo will share with you some of her own pieces, as well as a variety of other artist's work for inspiration.
Jo will offer demos, guidance and discussion through her practical, techniques-based approach. You will be encouraged to develop your own personal style as you experiment with ideas and approaches to combine methods and materials.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below.
This list is for guidance only - you can improvise and source your own materials, either in advance or once you have seen the LivePlus™ workshop, giving you maximum flexibility to choose how you would like to approach this craft.
Jo will provide details ahead of each session about which materials you will need to have to hand in order to work along with her. After each demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.

- You will need a selection of papers including tissue paper, photocopy paper, cartridge paper, and heavy watercolour paper. You will also need assorted textured scrap paper and collage papers
- Acrylic paints - you will need the three primary colours (Process Magenta or Permanent Rose, Lemon or Process Yellow, and Phthalo blue or Process Cyan) as well as black and white (System 3 / Galleria or similar brands)
- A bottle of acrylic ink and / or waterproof Indian ink in a dark colour
- Oil pastels / wax crayons / a candle (use whatever you have)
- Acrylic matt medium (gel not fluid)
- Polyfilla / tile grout / texture paste
- You will need a selection of paint brushes, both bristle and soft, of various sizes (use whatever you have)
- Glue brush or spatula
- PVA glue
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Rubber
- Scissors / craft knife
- Notebook
- Masking tape
- Mixing palette (you could use tear-off, stay-wet or an old plate - anything with large flat area to mix colours)
- Kitchen roll
- Water jars
- Apron
- Old newspapers
