Mon 14th June 10am - 11:30am
(UK timings)
This two-part online workshop is ideal for beginners and those who would like to refresh or refine their italic hand.
Workshop details
Gaynor believes that mastering the basics of the italic hand opens the door to many creative possibilities with italic and variations. The time and effort you put in to refining the basics will always be reflected in your future work.
Session 1 will start with a quick demonstration of fitting your nib & reservoir and ruling up for writing. The course will begin with learning related italic letters in groups in monoline with a pencil, progressing to alphabetical order, letter spacing and writing words. Pen-written italic will then follow, using a 2mm nib, showing details of letter formation in related letter groups, alphabetical order, letter spacing and words. You will be encouraged to write along with Gaynor and she will offer feedback to those who would like it.
Session 2 will start with feedback from Gaynor on any homework completed by students following session 1. Exercises will then be demonstrated which encourage rhythm in writing, followed by writing out a short text and how to make simple cut and paste lay-outs with text prior to writing a finished piece. Time permitting, Gaynor will demonstrate writing with smaller nib sizes as well.
After each class you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
