Workshop details
During this work-along class, we will create a fun mixed media concertina book from an A4 piece of paper. We'll learn how to cover it with leaves, foliage & flowers, and then fill it with colourful bugs! Karen will show us a variety of simple ways to make ladybirds, butterflies, dragonflies & bees using paint, print and a bit of cutting & sticking.
We will start by creating layered backgrounds using acrylic paint and sticks & leaves - we'll be exploring spattering, sponging and printing. Then we will decorate the background further with cut paper flowers and simple line monoprints or even just doodling with felt tip pens.
Once we’ve created our ‘garden’ as a home for the bugs, we'll make a collection of creatures to go in it using simple printing and papercraft techniques. Then we'll embellish and decorate! Become a true explorer by raiding your craft stash and add sequins, beads, glitter, dimensional paints….whatever you have to hand.
A great project for children and adults alike, all of the processes can be adapted and simplified for younger participants whilst the more experienced can have fun creating a lovely, layered concertina book.
