ArtTalk Details
We may live in an age of cheap textiles and fast fashion but we can learn from the past to help us extend the life of our clothes and reduce the environmental impact of fashion.
Passing clothes to charity shops is the latest way of extending the life of clothes. Textiles were highly valued up until the 1960s and would often be remodeled as clothing for other people, or for household use, several times over their lifetime. Even film stars and royalty found a way to recycle their outfits.
In this talk, Sharn will show you how textiles have been recycled over the past centuries, using examples from museums and images of the creative efforts of current recyclers. This talk hopes to inspire you to extend the life of your clothes and reduce the impact of your wardrobe on the environment.
