Workshop details
Acrylics are a wonderful versatile medium that can be used in a huge variety of ways – watercolour style; thick and luscious like oil paint; layered and combined with other media….and anything in between! It is a very forgiving medium – if you don’t like something just paint over it - a great tip for complete beginners and experienced artists alike.
This workshop aims to take you through basic techniques to enable you to paint with confidence. We will work through a range of exercises in a relaxed & informative way. No experience needed, just a big apron and a willingness to ‘have a go’!
We’ll start off with the absolute basics covering tools, materials and colour mixing. There will be a number of exercises with colour to learn to use the primaries, which can appear very brash in acrylics. We will also discuss basic mediums & brushes – what to buy and how to use them.
We will explore blocking in and building up - this is all about using acrylics in layers….the default way to use them without additives. Acrylics can also be used to mimic a watercolour style – although they have different properties to watercolour – which we will explore using brushes, dip pens and even a little bit of simple printing!
Acrylics are endlessly versatile and forgiving and are a perfect medium for beginners and professionals alike. Once you have the basics under your belt you can experiment with all sorts of creative ways to use them.
Karen is running a three-part workshop later in the year which follows on beautifully from this workshop. Click here for details.
