Tutor: Mary Noble
Fri 13th August 10am - 12pm (UK time)
This online workshop forms part of our first ever Summer School and is designed to offer an introduction to gestural calligraphy and is suitable for those with some calligraphic experience.
Workshop details
Sweeping arm movements, splashy writing; have fun exploring in a step-by-step way, how to branch out to work towards a more dynamic style of writing which will enhance your calligraphy.
Work alongside Mary for the pencil exercises, then optionally for the transition to the dip pen work that follows.
Pencil exercises mean we can focus on the arm movements that are so important to develop these gestural strokes which are becoming a mainstay of contemporary calligraphy. Translating these strokes into penwork means finding the best tool for you, that gives free-flowing writing, which will be discussed and demonstrated.
Converting the gestural strokes into pleasing lettering is our aim but we might have some happy accidents on the way. The handouts will help you to continue practicing at home to embed what you learn.
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
Equipment & materials list
Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need to hand during the workshop, and afterwards for practise at home, are listed below.
After the demo you will be sent a link to the recording, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.
