Workshop Details
Your tutor teaches through practical demonstration, one to one support and evolving studio exercises. The workshop commences with short preparatory drawing, establishing proportion, scale and composition. You will learn palette preparation, colour coordination, mixing, and brushwork techniques; the model will sit for the entire course.
In summary, you will have learned how to work from a portrait sitter, how to use drawing to familiarise yourself with the subject, fundamental oil techniques and have completed a portrait study.
Skills/Techniques Covered
Specific skills undertaken by course include, proportional sighting and drawing ratio, setting a coloured ground, underpainting, primary and secondary colour coordination and mixing.
Technical use of oil mediums, thinners, solvents, palette organisation and a comprehensive range of mark making possibilities with brush and palette knife.
Materials
Materials are not included in the booking fee. Included in the fee is: providing a model. Most materials including oil colour and mediums will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £20.00 to £25.00, payable to the tutor during the class. If you have additional tools and materials that you would like to bring then please do so.
Your tutor may not have the facilities to take card payments for materials in the workshops. Please remember to bring cash or your cheque book if your course involves buying materials from the tutor.
Please Bring With You
An apron or wear old clothes
We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.
