Fri 1st October 10am - 11:15am (UK time)
ArtTalk details
Join Melanie Blaikie, with her background in fine jewellery (having designed for Mappin & Webb, Garrard, Asprey, and Tiffany), for an hour of history, intrigue and fabulous jewels.
An insider's guide to the secret history of Tiaras – how from humble beginnings as a simple flower crown, tiaras have become the hallmark of royalty, aristocracy and well-dressed brides, everywhere.
But tiaras are also hiding some of the jewellery worlds best kept secrets; they've been smuggled in hold-all bags, almost lost to the high seas, and even haunted.
We'll also discover the etiquette of tiara wearing: Can anyone wear a tiara? And why one should never been seen wearing ones tiara before 5.00pm.
If you’d like to join in and wear your own tiara - Melanie would love to see it!
This talk follows on beautifully from Melanie's talk: The Secret History of Brooches.
