ArtTalk details
Today, most of us take for granted a wide range of ingredients, manufactured products and recipes. It is easy to forget how much food has changed, along with way that we buy, store and cook it.
From frozen food to microwaves, what and how we eat has changed radically over the last 100 years. Cooking with leftovers has changed from part of a weekly plan for meals to saving the planet, world cuisines have gone from rare meals out to takeaway staples, and vegetarian diet from economic necessity to lifestyle choice.
This talk explores some of these key changes and comes complete with a bonus recipe from Sharn's family archive which brings some of those changes together in one dish. Relax for an hour and reminisce about how it used to be and how we got to how we eat now.
Sharn has another talk planned that would follow on beautifully from this: 'Mrs Beeton: More than just a cookery book' on Fri 22nd October.
