Workshop details
Offhand Flourishing is an ornate, non-lettering calligraphic art form based on 19th Century pen techniques. Using a pointed steel pen, these lovely designs are created with very little preplanning and are a direct result of thinking on paper. The process is peaceful, meditative, and surprisingly easy to learn. The designs are unique to everyone and the results are very rewarding.
Beginning with ornamental cartouche flourish and expanding into foliate designs, we will unleash the magic of these graceful forms. Colour and embellishment will be explored during the class with an emphasis on Autumn themes. These captivating designs can augment your calligraphic work, serve as borders, corners, cards or frameable art. You will be amazed at how quickly your skills can progress as you watch these intricate designs come to life. The process will dramatically help to refine your skills with the pointed pen.
