During this two-day workshop we will create fabrics with paint and other media, from the most basic calico that resemble ceramics and then work a tiled panel – made from four, eight or nine individual tiles, to suit your design ideas. These could include text, ornate decoration or texture. Then using stitch and other embellishment we will decorate the tiles, stretch and finally assemble them ready for framing or mounting. Day one will include the creation of new fabrics and designing the panel – Day two we will stitch and finish the tiles.

Materials are not included in your course fee. Some materials will be provided by the tutor. The approximate cost of these will be £15 payable to the tutor during the course. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.

We advise that you do not buy any materials required for a course more than two weeks in advance, because occasionally a course is cancelled due to low enrolment.

Please Bring With You
- Sewing Machine – must be fully working and ready to use and must be one you are familiar with. Must be able to lower your feed dogs and if you can bring a selection of universal and embroidery needles.
- Various hand sewing needles which can be used with a variety of thread weights.
- Ruler Tape measure
- Pins
- Scissors for cutting fabric/thread
- Drawing pens or pencils and eraser
- You may wish to bring some fabrics in the colour palette of your choice which can be added to your tiles to provide shape or texture. These could include silks, hessian, velvet hand dyed felts... You will only use tiny amounts, so please check your fabric stashes first!
- A variety of threads suitable for your machine and embroidery floss – you may also wish to bring some metallic threads. These should be in the palette or for a contrast.
- If you have your own acrylic paints and wish to bring them, please feel free – but please do not buy any specially
