This LivePlus™ online workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience of working in watercolour.
 
Workshop details
During this two-part series, Jonathan will show you how to paint summer gardens with watercolour paint.

Using photos supplied by the tutor, you will be shown how to paint flowers and other plants in a summer garden environment. You will complete a different painting each week.

Whether you want to work along with Jonathan during each class, or choose to just watch and learn, is up to you.  All students will be given access to the recordings, which you can watch as many times as you wish for thirty days.

 
Specific skills you will learn at the workshop
Techniques and skills learnt will include:
  • colour mixing
  • shading
  • using light and dark
  • how to use white paint
  • using masking fluid 

Equipment & materials list
Materials are not included in the course fee. All the materials and equipment you will need are listed below.


  • A4 or ¼ imperial pad of ‘Not’ surface watercolour paper 140lb/300gsm (‘Not’ refers to the surface texture of the paper and is also known as CP (cold pressed) or Bockingford)
  • A size 8 or 10 round watercolour brush
  • A size 4 round watercolour brush
  • Watercolour paint, either tubes or pans.  Jonathan recommends the following selection of colours:
    • Ultramarine Blue
    • Cobalt Blue
    • Burnt Sienna
    • Raw Sienna / Yellow Ochre
    • Cadmium Yellow Pale / Aureolin
    • Cadmium Red
  • White gouache, Chinese white or white ink
  • Masking fluid and a size 1 or 2 round brush to apply it with
  • Palette or white plate (if using tube paint)
  • 2B pencil
  • Eraser
  • Tissues
  • Water container
