This LivePlus™ online workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience of working in mixed media. This is a fun workshop using a variety of techniques – no drawing or painting skills required!
Workshop details
Using the urban environment as our starting point, we will create a series of images reveling in delightful decay. Inspired by the unlikely beauty of pylons, gas towers, crumbling piers and industrial structures we will explore layers, fragments & textures, using a variety of interesting and creative techniques.
Using lettering inspired by weathered billboards and signage, we will first make collage papers using simple printing, stenciling, hand lettering and frottage - these will be used to create our background layers.
Onto this we will add images of urban structures using further printing techniques on fine tissue, together with more layers of collage to add graphic elements and hits of colour. We will distress the layers with pastes and washes of colour to bring the elements together.
Details and selective refinement will add finishing touches to your image to create an impression of urban decay. This is a very forgiving process, allowing you to work back & forth between layers, adding, editing and covering up as you go….all you need is a big apron and a willingness to play & experiment!
Students are encouraged to work along with Karen 'live' if they would like to. The classes will still be recorded and all students will be provided with access to watch the recordings as many times as they like for 30 days.
