Upcoming Classes with Karen Carter
About Karen Carter
I am an experienced artist and tutor specialising in printmaking, acrylics & mixed media. Having studied design and illustration at art college I worked for many years as a commercial artist…..I still do freelance illustration when time allows.
I love the social aspect of teaching – sharing my enthusiasm for a subject and enabling people to learn new skills and achieve great results.
My workshops are quite informal, usually consisting of a number of demos throughout the day, a structured project or series of exercises and time to work individually with everyone. I generally provide starting points and photos but encourage students to work with their own images and go ‘off piste’ if their work develops in a different direction…..it’s all about having fun and seeing what happens!
Career Highlights and Achievements
After studying design and illustration at art college, Karen worked for many years as a commercial artist. She now divides her time between teaching and pursuing her own work and is involved in exhibitions, studio trails, residencies and private commissions.
Inspirations
I am constantly exploring images of the coast where I grew up and the memories of holidays to Devon and Cornwall. A large part of my work concentrates on harbours, headlands, boats & beaches and the landscape of the south of England. I’m inspired by the work of Kurt Jackson, Mike Bernard and Francis Hatch.
Other Interests
If i wasn’t a painter and printmaker I’d probably be a chef - I love food! I’m a keen cook, grow my own veg and like nothing better than going out to eat – especially as someone else does the washing up!
