Tutor Karen Carter
10am - 4pm
(Lunch 12.30 - 1.00pm)
This one-day, onsite workshop is designed for absolute beginners (and you don’t need to be able to draw – this is not a botanical painting class!)
Workshop Details
Create a multi-layered piece of work incorporating simple printing, collage, and splashing around with paint to celebrate the colours and shapes of summer flowers. We will be looking at creative use of materials, expressive mark-making and the joy of colour to create an impression of an exuberant abundance of fabulous flowers & foliage. Take inspiration from the school's own garden or bunches of summer blooms in this fun experimental workshop.
Using a variety of techniques & materials we will work through a series of stages creating a layered image. Starting with a loose background of collage and simple printing we will add washes of paint, plus a bit of dripping and spattering!
Simple techniques for capturing the basic shapes and ‘essence’ of flowers will allow us to add more specific elements to our backgrounds…..and if you would prefer to trace images from magazine or photos that’s fine too!
This is a very forgiving process….just keep layering until you like what you see!
Bring a big apron and a willingness to experiment and play!
There will be lots of step-by-step demos and individual help in this fun & lively workshop.
Skills & Techniques Covered
