This one-day workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with more experience
Workshop Details
Make a small coiled basket or mat using plant materials gathered from the garden and hedgerows. Coiling is a unique basketry technique in that it is stitched rather than woven, spiralling from a central point, similar to coiled pottery. Many materials found in the garden and along the hedgerows can be used with this technique.
Polly will bring along a selection of plant materials for you to work with on the day of the workshop. She will give students a handout on what and how you can collect, store and prepare materials for future use.
Coiling is a slow technique, so depending on how fast you work, and how big you want to make your basket or mat, you may need to complete your basket at home, but if this is the case you will receive plenty of demonstration and instructions on how to finish off your work - it’s very straightforward to do.
All materials and equipment will be provided to make a small coiled basket or mat.
Skills & Techniques Covered
Materials
Materials are not included in your booking fee. All materials will be provided by the tutor.
The approximate cost of these will be around £5.00, payable to the tutor during the class – cash only please.
