Course details
Enjoy the pleasure of drawing and painting beautiful flowers and botanicals with all the freshness of the Spring colour palette.
During this two-part course we will be exploring the techniques and tips of successfully drawing and painting with watercolours. The subject can be executed as a precise botanical painting or in a modern way - large and loosely painted.
We will look at the different options and discuss the appropriate techniques and tools for each. We will give consideration to mixing fresh translucent color and gain the ability to create good washes and blend colour expertly by using our brushes and paints to best advantage.
The sessions will be spent learning the different methods available rather than working towards a finished painting. Jan will confirm which botanicals will be the focus of the sessions, closer to the time.
Specific skills you will learn
- Observation of the important elements
- Transferring drawing to final paper
- Composition
- How to apply a wash
- How to create successful blending of colour
- How to create shadows on the flower
- The secret of subtle or bright colour
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online blackboard. Helpful and easy to use, they enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – just as you would in a classroom environment.
Jan will offer feedback via the blackboard for any work uploaded by students within thirty days of the class ending. You will be sent the link to access your blackboard in the week before your class begins and will have access for at least sixty days after the class ends.
After the live session has finished on Zoom, we will share the link to view the recording on the blackboard. You can watch the recording as many times as you like for sixty days.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
