Course details
In the final session of our Creative Colour classes we will be exploring the glorious greens! From the bright zingy greens of spring landscapes, to the deep earthy hues of the forest and the turquoise greens of tropical coasts, green is a wide-ranging and sometimes challenging colour to work with. Intrinsically linked to the natural world, we will explore this complex colour through landscapes and the lushness of plants and flowers.
We will start with a brief look at cultural and artistic references around our chosen hue, then we'll move on making our own reference boards collecting colours from a variety of sources. We will put this to practical use with colour-swatching, colour mixing, and exploring colour relationships. This will be the springboard to a series of fun exercises which you can work along with if you wish…. these will be different for each of the Creative Colour classes, allowing you to build an exciting collection of approaches and images to fill a sketchbook, make into cards, or hang on the wall!
These classes are a chance to learn a bit of colour theory in a playful, relaxed and informative way…. they are suitable for everyone who has an enthusiasm for all things colourful! No experience needed, Karen will be doing lots of demos and will give step-by-step instructions. You can work in watercolour, gouache or acrylics – the emphasis will be on understanding colour rather than specific paint techniques.
Specific skills you will learn
- Colour mixing using modern & traditional primaries
- Understanding colour relationships
- Using contrast to make a painting ‘pop’
- Exploring transparency & opacity
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class.
Karen will offer personal feedback for any work submitted via the class page within thirty days of the class ending. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
