Course details
In this two-part work-along class, Samira will explore the beauty of eightfold patterns from Spain and Morocco.
In the first class we will familiarise ourselves with the tools and Samira will run through the processes and practicalities involved, as well as potential outcomes. She will share with you lots of examples of her own work and those from around the world.
On a blank sheet of paper, we will learn how to draw a series of lines and circles to construct our underlying grid. From this grid she will show us how a range of variations for the eightfold pattern can be drawn. We will outline and trace several variations and Samira will demonstrate how those tracings can be transferred and tessellated seamlessly.
Finally, we'll add a contemporary feel to these pattens by bringing them to life with watercolours and gouache on our watercolour paper.
Specific skills you will learn
- Construct Islamic Geometric Patterns using a compass and a straight edge
- The practicalities of outlining, tracing, transferring and tessellating an Islamic geometry pattern seamlessly
- Techniques to render in Islamic Geometric Pattern in Watercolours & Gouache
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class.
Samira will offer personal feedback for any work submitted via the class page within thirty days of the class ending. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
