Course details
This course forms part of our brand-new STUDY programme; a range of longer courses, running over a number of weeks, exploring our most popular subjects in greater depth. Combining tutor-led live classes with elements of self-study, these courses are designed to stretch and challenge you, whilst maintaining the small & friendly learning environment we are known for.
This exciting new seven-week course will teach you all the 'formal' principles of art (line, form, shape, texture, tone, and pattern) through exploration and experimentation of materials. You'll be looking at the work of different artists and their approaches each week, before composing your own still life from a collection of everyday objects and special items. This gentle and nurturing course is perfect for those students who want to learn the 'rules' whilst enjoying the freedom of developing their creative side.
The syllabus includes:
- The basic techniques of drawing and painting a still life
- Developing a series of observational studies
- How to tackle different sections of a painting, such as background, foreground, and the relationship between objects
- How to work with various materials:
- Graphite pencil
- Charcoal
- Oil pastels
- Watercolours
- Acrylic Paints
- How to work in mixed media; combining media and techniques
- How to build tones, colours and textures
- Colour mixing and combinations
- Understanding and developing composition; using differing viewpoints to create interesting studies
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class.
Jo will offer personal feedback for any work submitted via the class page within thirty days of the class ending. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
