Course details
In this two-part beginners class, canal artist and signwriter Kerri Williams will be introducing us to the art of Casual / Americana lettering. This fun, loose, and retro style can be seen adorning billboards and store windows across the United States.
In the first session Kerri will cover the high-level principles of fonts, composition and style. Plus we'll be learning (and practicing!) basic brush techniques. During session two, Kerri will paint a cute Americana sign, from start to finish, answering your questions along the way.
In this fun and informal class you’ll develop a new appreciation for letter forms, and gain an understanding of the equipment required. A downloadable set of practice sheets for you to print at home is also included.
Specific skills you will learn
- Casual font examples
- How to hold and work a sign writing brush
- How to form painted letters
- Basic layout
Additional Information
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class.
Kerri will offer personal feedback for any work submitted via the class page within thirty days of the class ending. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
