Course details
Next up in our 'Printing Without a Press' series is this Jigsaw and Reduction Cut Linoprinting class with Karen Carter.
Karen will remind us of the basics of linocutting, before we look at ways to expand the techniques and create coloured layered images. In the first part of the session, we will be using a simple method of registration to allow us to work with reduction cutting. This technique uses a single block of lino, repeatedly cut and inked to create a multicoloured image. You can produce an entire series from a single plate.
We will move on to look at creating designs to make jigsaw prints to. Karen will show us how to cut our plates up into several individual pieces, then ink and reassemble them, allowing us to use multiple colours in one layer….all easy to do with soft-cut lino and a sharp craft knife!
A fun and instructional class suitable for anyone with a basic knowledge of linocutting.
Specific skills you will learn
- Creating designs suitable for reduction cuts and jigsaw prints
- A range of inking & printing techniques
- Materials & tools for getting the best results when handprinting
- Working with colour – tips and techniques
