Course details
Next up in our 'Printing Without a Press' series is this monoprinting class with Karen Carter.
A monoprint is a one-off image created directly onto a substrate with ink or paint, then transferred to paper with rollers, spoons or simply hand-pressure. Using mark-making, layering and linework you can produce unique images that are somewhere between a painting, drawing and print. Spontaneous, fast and fun this is printmaking for anyone who likes to work freely with colour and line.
Learn the basics of this simple hand-printing process and produce a set of single and multi-colour prints in this structured but relaxed workshop. We will look at creating interesting layers using additive & subtractive mark-making techniques, together with drawn monoprints, collage, masks and more! We will explore a variety of substrates from gel-plates to polythene and a number of different media so you can adapt the process to the materials you have available to you.
A fun and informal method of printing…..so grab a big apron and be prepared to experiment and play!
Specific skills you will learn
- Using a variety of surfaces from which to print
- Using a range of different media for monoprinting
- Drawn & painted techniques
- Layering using masks & mark-making
All Ardington ONLINE classes and talks are accompanied by their own online class page. Helpful and easy to use, these private pages enable students and tutors to share resources, ideas and photos with each other – before, during, and after class.
Karen will offer personal feedback for any work submitted via the class page within thirty days of the class ending. The link to access the page will be shared via email in the days leading up to the class.
We suggest that you do not buy any specialist materials more than one week in advance as, occasionally, a class may be cancelled due to low enrolment. For full terms and conditions, please click here.
