Class details
In this brand-new workshop, Janina will take you through all the steps to design and paint your own canvas sheet using acrylic paint and adding decoration and interest with mark making techniques. She will then show you how to make two styles of handmade books using your beautiful painted canvas pieces for the covers.
The first book will be a cross stitch binding. The second book will be a traveller's notebook style of book with refillable sections.
Due to the drying times, only the first part of the workshop (painting the canvas) will be work along. Whilst your canvas paintings dry, you will watch as Janina demonstrates how to make the books using her pre-made canvas covers.
Specific skills you will learn
- Preparing a canvas sheet with gesso
- Painting and mark making with acrylic paint
- Preparing paper and making signatures ready for making books
- Using a template for accurate hole placement in the covers and the signatures
- Binding a book using the cross stitch binding technique
- Making a traveller's style notebook with refillable sections
